Sheriff Joe Arpaio created the 'tent city jail' to save Arizona from spending tens of millions of dollars on another expensive prison complex. He has jail meals down to 20 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He banned smoking and pornographic magazines and took away their weightlifting equipment. He says: 'They're in jail to pay a debt to society not to build muscles so they can assault innocent people when they leave.' |

More than 110 foreign-born criminals currently on probation in Maricopa County have been arrested and now face deportation as a result of a new operation involving the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Maricopa County Adult Probation (ADP). More arrests are anticipated. |

I would like to respond to the New York Times editorial regarding immigration and Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
However, I should begin with a little personal background. I lived in or around New York City for close to the first forty years of my life. So I get the whole New-York-is-the-center-of-the-world zeitgeist. I not only get it, I agree. I agree that New York today is the Rome of two thousand years ago, the global intersection of politics, commerce and culture. |

After a seven month long investigation, Sheriff’s detectives followed a car they had under surveillance and after making a routine traffic stop on that vehicle yesterday at 83rd Avenue and Indian School, detectives found four (4) pounds of pure methamphetamine in a hidden compartment inside the car. |
